    As the EHS Coordinator you will help ensure that all CAN facilities (4 in walking proximity, approx. 120,000 sq. ft total) meet legal and corporate expectations following the ISO 14001/45001 EHSMS.

    Job Duties:

    • Assesses, monitors, and evaluates safety policies, programs and procedures for compliance and improvement opportunities.
    • Identify trends, performance indicators and strategies for improvement based on statistical analysis and EHS data.
    • Carry out both scheduled and unscheduled EHS inspections to identify, document, and report existing and potential hazards (near-misses), and recommend corrective actions  
    • Prepare meeting agendas & chair Joint Health and Safety (EHS) Committee meetings.
    • Prepare monthly/quarterly reporting on key performance indicators.
    • Participate in return to work meetings (as requested by HR)
    • Proactively perform impact / risk assessments and ensure relevant information gets populated in WIs, SOPs, JHAs, etc
    • Provide technical advice and guidance to staff on EHS issues including but not limited to ergonomics, environmental issues, evaluating health and safety procedures in areas such as incident investigation, emergency preparedness, etc.
    • Develop, coordinate and conduct effective EHS training programs including EHS onboarding training.
    • Assist in ensuring that all facility personnel are trained in their specific EHS training programs.
    • Analyze workplace practices and processes to determine EHS requirements and make recommendations where necessary.
    • Assess EHS needs, as well as develop action plans and arrange and/or deliver training to meet those needs.
    • Perform EHS audits and inspections, as well as coordinate any related corrective action plans.
    • Assist employees in maintaining an environmentally safe and healthy workplace, as well as advise supervisory/managerial staff on enforcement related matters.
    • Participate on JHSC as required and develop and implement programs directed at supporting Internal Responsibility System.
    • Help ensure legislative compliance on EHS matters and make EHS Manager aware of concerns
    • 1-2 years related work experience within a manufacturing facility preferred; experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge of the Ontario Environmental Protection Act, OH&S Act, MOL Regulations and Ontario Fire Code are essential.
    • Knowledge of wellness programs is an asset to assist HR if necessary
    • Must have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Professional and positive attitude, excellent work ethics, strong desire to learn and succeed.
    • Ability and maturity to work proactively, with minimal supervision, and handle confidential matters in a discreet manner is required.
    • Wear proper PPE, update EHS training matrices, update incident logs
    • Additional duties as required and directed by the Plant Manager and EHS Manager

    Work Conditions:

    • Hourly, days
    • May need to come in early or late to accommodate training requirements for midnights and afternoons
    • Meet physical demands that come with working in a manufacturing facility for at least 50% of the work shift. For example; Push, pull and/or lift up to 30lbs, recognize colors, able to wear required PPE; ability to walk upstairs and have the ability to stoop, bend or crawl and able to reach above head.
